A new career center is now open in central Concord. Cabarrus County leaders say the new location could mean easier access for hundreds of job applicants. City and county leaders celebrated the opening of the NCWorks Career Center Tuesday. The goal is to help those looking for jobs find the right fit."""""""

"Places like Alevo,Gordon Foods,Amazon,FedEx,all the ones that are expanding and bringing new jobs to the community," said David Hollars, the executive director of the Centralina Workforce Development Board.

Tina Hatley is one of a number of people who has taken classes and applied for jobs at the center. She was laid off after nearly 17 years with her former company because they dissolved her office position. While it’s been hard to find a new job,Hatley is hopeful things will work out. " " " "

"It’s been hard for me,because I"ve always worked and then the unemployment is not what it"s supposed to be and you don"t have enough money still to support your family," said Hatley.

She’s one of hundreds looking for jobs in Cabarrus County. New employers coming to the area, including Amazon, are working with the NCWorks Career Center. The partnership has paid off for some job-seekers. Recently,Amazon hired 116 applicants from the career center.

Applicants work with trained NCWorks employees to take resume classes and search for jobs.

As Kannapolis develops its downtown area in the years to come,Mayor Pro Tem Ryan Dayvault says the center could be key to filling future positions.

It"s a resource in a new location that county leaders hope people looking for work will use. For more information about NCWorks Career Centers, click here.
