Building a Progressive Workforce and Creating a Culture of Healthy Living

The"Competitive Workforce Alliance Allied Health Regional Skills Partnership"along with"Rowan-Cabarrus Community College"held a conjoined"Health Science Career Pathways Symposium"on Wednesday,April 26,2017 at the Kannapolis City Hall (NCRC). "The purpose of the Career Pathway Symposium was geared towards high school educators,higher education,health care providers,and local workforce development boards. Close to 100 individuals were in attendance. "The"Centralina Workforce Development Board"played a very vital role in this event. "Narissa Knight,Centralina WDB Services Specialist,"Sherika Rich,Centralina WDB Services Leader,"Mark Seifel,Centralina WDB Business Services Leader,and"Asia Wilson,Centralina WDB Communications Specialist"all had a hand in planning or working the event. "

The event started at 10:00am with a presentation led by"Dr. Cyndi Osterhus"in which she talked about problem-based learning in the classroom. "Right after,"Emily Ward,MSN,RN"talked about teaching through hi-fidelity simulations. "During lunch,the"Allied Heath Regional Skills Partnership"held its regular partnership meeting which featured a college panel discussion. "The panelists for this portion of the meeting included:"

Dr. Ruth Hedgpeth,Dean of Nursing,Allied Health & Human Services,Early Childhood Education,Lateral Entry Education,and Cosmetology at Central Piedmont Community College. "

Dr. Tammy Crump,Executive VP of Health Sciences and Public Services at Stanly Community College"

Dr. Wendy Barnhardt,Dean of Health and Education Programs at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

Dr. Scott Gordon,PhD. and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte"

The"Centralina Workforce Development Board,Charlotte Works,Western Piedmont WDB,and"Gaston Works"all participated in this event. The event was sponsored by the Competitive Workforce Alliance (supported by the Centralina WDB,Gaston WDB,Charlotte Works and others) and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. "The event was a great success. "
