Sep 09, 2016

TaTa’Dedra Allen from Wadesboro,NC was enrolled into the Workforce Investment Act now the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act"s Centralina Nexgen Services February 4,2014." She came into the program as a graduate of Anson Senior High School." After graduation, she didn’t know what her next step would be in life and wanted the program to help guide her in the right direction." She had trouble finding employment due to her lack of work experience." She also was basic skills deficient and was considered a youth who needed additional assistance." She had great ideas on what she thought she wanted to do in the future but didn’t know how to go about getting to that place."

Once enrolled,Union" County Community Action,Inc. (UCCA), assisted Ta’Dedra with leadership & development, work experience and" supportive services." After working on her work readiness skills she was placed at an internship with the Anson County Domestic Violence Coalition as an administrative assistant." She worked" there off and on through UCCA for about 17 months ." Her supervisors stated that she was always on time and did a great job." She did so well that when the Domestic Violence Coalition had funding available for an administrative assistant they decided to hire her." Ta"Dedra began working there on July 20,2015." Though she was happy to have employment she was still not satisfied." During leadership sessions throughout the years she told her Career Development Specialist Mr. Malone that she really would like to study law,and that was still on her mind." Ta’Dedra and" her Career Development Specialist had multiple conversations about how she could go about achieving her ultimate goal."""

After working at the Domestic Violence Coalition for a little over one year she decided to resign in order to pursue her initial dream." She" contacted Mr. Malone on August 12th stating that she had received an acceptance letter to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and that she would be moving on campus the following Monday for Freshman orientation."" Due to her being a late enrollment, the amount of federal financial aid that she was awarded was minimal." Likewise,Union County Community Action,Inc. assisted her by purchasing her books." Ta’Dedra is going to be studying criminal justice at UNC-Pembroke and UCCA,Inc. couldn’t be more proud of her."
