Success Finds Another Centralina WDB NEXGEN Customer!

D"Asia Cook from Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency (SRCAA) entered Centralina Workforce Development Board"s (WDB) NEXGEN Program for education"and employment training in April,2015. She was determined to obtain her High School Diploma and was able to graduate May,2016 at the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) 2016 Graduation Ceremony. While attending the NEXGEN educational session,D"Asia received her Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Certification,Driver License,and currently working on completion of the Career Readiness Certification (CRC). While in the NEXGEN Program she has served as an Ambassador for the NEXGEN Youth Council,youth representative with the NC General Assembly in Raleigh,NC and a delegate to the 10th Annual Youth Summit in Cary,NC.

D"Asia attained valuable employability skills training on her worksite with SWAGGA Enrichment Program at the Salisbury Recreation Department as a counselor for summer enrichment for local students." She also shared a dual work experience with the Salisbury Rowan Community Action Weatherization Program as a Clerical Assistant.

She was able to secure additional employment with the help of the NEXGEN Career Development Specialist at the local Kmart Corporation. She has received two recognitions as employee of the month." D"Asia has applied and interviewed for a full time position with a local community health care facility." D"Asia hopes to attend college in the near future to receive a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education.

SRCAA"s NEXGEN Talent Development Program has assisted:

• 12 NEXGEN Youth in obtaining their High School Equivalency (GED) Diploma,"
• 13 NEXGEN youth attainment of certificates toward employment goals,"
• 7 NEXGEN youth attended college and
• 26 NEXGEN youth obtained employment.

Placed 27 NEXGEN Youth at Businesses/Community agencies worksites to gain employability skills through hands-on work experience.
