Centralina WDB and Regional Partners Receive Certified Career Pathway

Mar 02, 2017

The Southwest Prosperity Zone — which includes the 10 counties served by the Centralina WDB,CharlotteWorks, and Gaston County workforce development boards — received certification for its advanced manufacturing career pathway at the NCWorks Commission quarterly meeting on Feb. 8 in Raleigh.

A core team made up of representatives from each workforce board and a facilitator from the NC Department of Commerce led the year-long process. Working with economic development, industry and educational partners they developed the pathway, which had to criteria defined by North Carolina’s Department of Commerce such as employer engagement, collaboration, career awareness and work-based learning before it could be certified.

"Being a regional certified pathway,it represents input and support from across the 10 county area and is a guide that students,job-seekers and those looking at new career paths can use to learn about how to gain the skills necessary for employment in the Prosperity Zones’ advanced manufacturing industry," says Mark Seifel, business services leader at Centralina WDB.

The advanced manufacturing pathway will now move into the implementation phase. The group has already began work to certify a second pathway for health care industry occupations that are in high demand.

Certified career pathway success requires involvement of agencies, organizations and companies from across the region. If you are interested in pathway development and are looking for ways to be involved, contact Mark Seifel at mseifel@centralina.org for more information.
