What’s Going on with the Board?

The Centralina Workforce Development Board held its October Board Meeting on Tuesday,October 17,2017 at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s facility on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis." This meeting was very informative and showcased major things going on in the Centralina region."

At the top of the meeting a new slate of Centralina WDB members were presented and welcomed. The new Centralina WDB Board members are as followed:

Mr. Fernando Little – Carolinas Healthcare System – Concord (Cabarrus County)

Mr. John Challis – NGK Ceramics USA,Inc. – Mooresville (Iredell County)

Mr. Brandon Douglas – IBEW -Statesville (Iredell County)

Ms. Monica Johnson – Michelin North America-US11 -Norwood (Stanly County)

Mr. Matt Nelson – Cyril Bath Company (Union County)

During the meeting Centralina Business Services Leader Mark Seifel shared the NCWorks Certified Career Pathways project that the Centralina WDB has been working on with CharlotteWorks and the Gaston WDB." The project is geared towards integrating the workforce development system ensuring training is aligned with the job demands of high growth in different industry sectors. Career Pathways are development programs comprised of educators,workforce partners,and employers that ensures the training for individuals aligns with the current and future needs of businesses. Craig Lamb,VP of Customized and Continuing Education at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Mandy Mills,CTE Director with Rowan-Salisbury School System and Seifel presented an overview on how NCWorks Certified Career Pathways are developed and operationalized in the region. The current Centralina Career Pathways projects industries are in Advanced Manufacturing (Mechatronics) and Health Care.

Another topic of discussion at the Board meeting was advocacy and communications." The Centralina WDB,in partnership with two other local workforce boards,began working with Advocacy & Communications Solutions (ACS) on creating a formal plan for helping board members become effective spokespersons and ambassadors. Asia Wilson,Centralina WDB Communications Specialist and Narissa Knight,Centralina Services Specialist have been working with ACS to advance the Board’s communications strategy throughout the region. John Metcalf led the overall conversation.

Towards the end of the meeting Ronnie Grantham,Regional Operations Director for the NCWorks Southwest Prosperity Zone,gave an update on NC Commerce"s 2017 Strategic Economic Development Initiative.
