Over the past year,"Ricardo Blake"had utilized services from several different staffing companies performing a variety of temporary jobs in the Mooresville,NC area. Many of these jobs included manufacturing assignments at various sites. In February 2016,Blake stepped into the"NC Works Career Center- Mooresville, powered by the Centralina Workforce Development Board,in search of permanent employment. Blake was greeted and assisted in the process of WIOA with"Melissa Harp,Talent Development Coordinator (TDC)"at the"NCWorks Career Center-Mooresville." He was the only source of income for his family and the temporary jobs that he had been working weren’t paying enough." At the time,Blake did not have reliable transportation which meant he would need employment close to his home.

Harp, the Center’s TDC took the time to explain the various Center services to Blake and after some deliberation he decided to enroll in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) services. Harp, performed various in-depth assessments with Ricardo and had conversations with him in relation to soft skills training, time management, and conflict resolution skills.

Centralina Workforce Services staff then considered On-the Job Training(OJT) positions for Blake since he lacked the necessary skill set to find a position with a pay rate that would support his family." There were also discussions with him about his means of transportation as it related to getting back and forth to work.

On March 13,2017,Blake was hired by Consolidated Power though an OJT contract as an Electrical Helper." Roughly half way through the OJT contract,Consolidated Power called to ask if Blake could be given a pay increase due to his strong work ethic and his ability to learn. Blake completed his OJT assignment on"July 11,2017"and is still employed with Consolidated Power." Due to the WIOA services and OJT and his willingness to work hard,Blake was able to purchase a car and is now able to adequately support his family."
