Charlotte Regional Partnership CEO Ronnie Bryant Reinforces the importance of Workforce Development

Ronnie Bryant,CEO of Charlotte Regional Partnership (CRP) presented at the Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB) meeting on Tuesday February 13,2018 at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College NC Research Campus facility in Kannapolis. Ronnie placed emphasis on the importance of a strong workforce development board and its role in assuring he has the key thing that every business wants – skilled talent.

With the recent news of the Amazon HQ2 loss,Bryant broke down the top 3 decision drivers companies like Amazon are looking for when deciding on a place to call home. Those three drivers are labor force,location and real estate. Bryant explained that previously real estate had been the leading driver for companies when choosing their headquarters location,however; workforce is now at the forefront. Bryant stated that although Charlotte USA region had a creative and very competitive proposal,the lack of skilled tech workers,according to Amazon,played a major role in the lost bid. Bryant stressed to the group that "companies follow labor" and to be competitive with other states our workforce here in the region needs to aggressive."

Although we did not win the Amazon HQ2 bid,all was not lost. The Charlotte Regional Partnership and its affiliates learned a great deal from the business move,gaining vital information and building partnerships with businesses from around the country.

Ronnie Bryant praised the Centralina Workforce Development Board for their work in helping to build a talented workforce for the region." He noted that the Centralina WDB had a clear focus on the five key sectors targeted by the CRP and the Board is always developing innovative collaborations to solve workforce issues."
