Rickey Keith, a young adult looking to improve her life, came into the NCWorks Career Center Union, led by Thomas Foster, in her words "seeking a change". Rickey was employed as a Customer Service Representative, but she was not happy with her current employment and was seeking a new career, not just another job. Rickey had a desire to become a dental assistant. Rickey took a leap of faith and quit her current employment to start a new career. Rickey was successfully enrolled in Centralina WDB NextGen services by Eric Sturdivant, Jr., NextGen Career Development Specialist. Ricket completed Legacy, a career readiness training that combines job search, job readiness, and cognitive thinking skills training, to assist with determining Rickey's next steps. Through career coaching and guidance from Eric Sturdivant and tuition assistance through Centralina WDB funded Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding, Rickey began dental assisting training at DA Academy of North Carolina in February 2023 and successfully completed the training in May 2023. Eric Sturdivant along with the NCWorks Business Services Consultant assisted Rickey with job search and updating her resume. Rickey stated, "She appreciated Eric taking the time out to assist her". Rickey is currently employed at Smiles in the Sun Dentistry. She started with the company on June 28, 2023, at $17.00 per hour.
