Dr. Carol Spalding Receives Mark Whitley Chairman's Award

During July 11, 2023, Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB) meeting, Board member Dr. Carol S. Spalding was presented with the Mark F. Whitley Chairman's Award. This award is presented to Board members for their outstanding dedication and service in workforce development. Dr. Spalding served on the Centralina WDB from February 2016 until June 2023.

Dr. Carol Spalding has served as president of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College since 2008. She was selected as the 2019 President of the Year by the North Carolina Community College System and one of the top Ten Regional Leaders of the Decade by the Charlotte Business Journal. Her primary focus is economic and workforce development. Dr. Spalding is dedicated to supporting students, employees, and our entire region. In her 14th year as president, she was honored by the Rowan-Cabarrus board of trustees at an official unveiling ceremony by naming the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Center the Dr. Carol S. Spalding Advanced Technology Center. 55,000-square-foot building offers training to prepare students for the high-tech, high-demand careers of today and tomorrow, with program areas such as engineering, mechatronics, robotics, computer-aided design, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

Spalding's forward thinking and response to our community's workforce and economic development needs have served as a great benefit to Centralina Workforce Development Board. Thank you, Dr. Spalding, for all of your shared knowledge and support in the workforce.
