Centralina WDB NextGen Youth in Lincoln County Participates in Training Service Despite COVID-19 Restrictions

Jun 29, 2020

This spring, Lincoln County resident Brooke White enrolled in Centralina WDB NextGen services looking for assistance to get training to become a dental assistant. She is a single parent and had no previous income to pay for training.

Brooke enrolled in NextGen services at the same time as the NCWorks Career Center was closed for COVID-19. This made it impossible for her to complete Legacy training, which is mandatory before receiving funded services, in person.

Always looking to improve our services and further reach our customers, Blaine Claiborne, NCWorks Centralina Career Development Specialist in Lincoln County worked with Brooke to complete her Legacy training virtually.

The training was completed in 3 sessions. Brooke worked on assignments each night and turned them in each morning before the next class.

Brooke was able to complete the Legacy training and enroll in Dental Assistant Training at Dental Academy of Charlotte. She is currently 50% complete with her classes. Her graduation date is June 30, 2020.

Now finished with school, Brooke has accepted employment as a dental tech.

“This shows that Centralina WDB NextGen staff are willing and able to work with its customers to help them attain their goals,” said Claiborne.
