NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln Staff Go the Extra Mile to Assist College Student

Sep 03, 2019

Jerdon Pressley, stopped by the NCWorks Career Center in Lincolnton early this summer on the advice of family members. Jerdon, a college student, wanted to learn more about what Centralina WDB NextGen services could do for him since he resided outside of Lincoln County and was unsure of what NextGen could do for him.

After spending time and talking to Jerdon, Blaine Claiborne,  an NCWorks Centralina – Career Development Specialist, realized that Jerdon was really in need of help finding summer employment.

Blaine reached out to the NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln Leader Tony Simpson to see if he knew of any local companies looking to hire summer employees. After making a few calls, Jerdon was referred to HTI, a local temporary agency who has a contract with the Bosch plant in Lincolnton.

Jerdon completed the online applications and was hired by the end of the week. He contacted Blaine by email to thank him for all his assistance in helping him obtain a summer job. Jerdon says that he really enjoyed his warehouse job.

“The goal of the NCWorks Career Center staff is to assist our customers to successfully reach their career goals. In this case, the NextGen program enrollment was not viable, but there was still a need for the customer to find summer employment. I tried to use all of the assets available and as a team we were able to get Jerdon a position he desired with Bosch through HTI,” said Claiborne.
