Retired Veteran Gets New Job with Assistance from NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln Staff

Jul 25, 2019

Art Kary, a retired veteran came into NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln in Lincolnton in May 2019. The 61-year-old was seeking assistance in finding employment. Recently retired from the town of Maiden Public Works Department, he went into the NCWorks Career Center seeking, “Anything I can get,” said Art.

Art stated he did not like applying for jobs on the computer, because he found it too time consuming. He preferred the old way of doing things, when you went into the business and shook someone’s hand and introduced yourself. So, while at the Career Center, staff assisted him in making changes on his resume to reflect the kind of job he wanted.

Although there were roadblocks, Art wanted to apply to a certain job that day, so he asked staff for help applying for the job.

On June 5, Art called the NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln to inform staff that he got the job that they assisted him in applying for online. He thanked the staff for all their help and said he could not have gotten the job without them. Currently, Art Kary is working full-time at a printing shop in Conover.

“Art Kary is an example of the importance of NCWorks Career Center to the community. NCWorks Lincoln made it possible for Art to walk in and get the assistance he needed to re-enter the workforce at 61-years-old so he can live his best life,” said Sheila Jennings, a Talent Engagement Specialist at NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln.
