On December 20, 2018 at the Wayne Brothers Inc. Corporate Office, five high school seniors: Erick Garcia Morales, Justin Richardson, Andy Claros Chicas, Elian Lazaro and Alex Mejia Nunez graduated from the Wayne Brothers & Concrescere University Pre-Apprenticeship program. In partnership with Centralina Workforce Development Board NextGen services, the program gave youth a chance to experience a glimpse of a career in construction.

“The skills that you’ve learned – that trade that you’re learning no one will be able to take that away from you,” said Keith Wayne, Wayne Brothers President and CEO to young graduates during the ceremony.

Centralina WDB NextGen services provided the students with the crucial soft skills training to better equip them for the work place and possible upcoming job interviews.

“I really enjoyed my time being here. I learned so much in so many different fields and categories that I didn’t even know I could do,” added graduate Justin Richardson.

The room was packed with family and friends of the graduates as well as representatives from Centralina Workforce Development Board NextGen services, NCWorks-Centralina, and Kannapolis City Schools.

“College is not the only answer for them and so it’s nice for us to build a pathway and opportunities for the students to have access to industries and occupations that they might not have considered,” said Mallory Harris, Career Development/Special Population Coordinator Career and Technical Education for Kannapolis City Schools.

This is the program’s third graduation class and a spring class will begin this month.
