New Tool to Support Economic Development and Job Growth Rolls Out

Apr 03, 2014

Career Headlight SmallCentralina Workforce Development Board is welcoming users of the region"s new career tool "Career Headlight," to learn what it can do to help career seekers identify careers and jobs in the region,the skills required,and where to get the needed training in the region.

"We are inviting organizations and their staff from high schools,technical schools,community colleges,universities,career centers and non-profits as well as any other organizations to use Career Headlight," said David Hollars,Centralina Workforce Board Director.

Career Headlight is being developed by the Centralina Workforce Development Board,an organization within Centralina Council of Governments,in collaboration with regional partners.

"Job seekers,local government officials and employers in our region have all told us there needs to be a better way to match up people seeking careers with good paying in-demand jobs locally and in the region," Hollars said. "That is why we are developing Career Headlight."

"The Career Headlight tool responds to recommendations in the Prosperity for Greater Charlotte CEDS report," said Mike Manis,Centralina Economic Development Commission President. "Considered one of the best practice strategies across the country,it helps us to more quickly and effectively close the gap between what employers need and the skills,education,and training pipeline we have within the region."

"It"s about jobs,jobs,jobs for our region," Manis said. "Career Headlight helps us meet the need of employers seeking skilled employees. We boost job growth by linking the region"s workforce skills,strengths,and education assets to the specific needs of local businesses. The region’s overall business environment is tremendously enhanced for industries interested in coming to a region that has a skilled workforce."

Career Headlight is unique because it allows all organizations,students and other job seekers to identify rewarding local careers and jobs,identify the skills needed and how and where to get the training in the region.

"No one organization can provide all this information," Hollars said. "Working together with Career Headlight we"ll get a better,lower cost solution that crosses geographic boundaries."

Features of Career Headlight includes:

  • County-level job demand and education data not found on any other jobs/career platform;
  • Education programs for each institution in the region and how they connect to careers and occupations;
  • Use of an award-winning software platform that is designed to provide information quicker,better and faster;
  • A database that is more comprehensive,but designed to be easy-to-use;
  • A design that will soon enable it to be available on smartphones and tablets.

Career Headlight translates into action the award-winning Jobs,Workforce & Education Alignment Strategy of the Prosperity for Greater Charlotte Report,and maintains a database of existing regional industry growth and related jobs demand that will be updated regularly.
