Anson County's 2nd Annual Economic Summit "Ushering in a new era"

Anson County community residents,government and economic leaders gathered together for Anson County"s 2nd Annual Economic Summit at the Lockhart-Taylor Center. The theme was "Ushering in a New Era" and focused on workforce development,manufacturing,education,agriculture,and education in the local economy."" Many speakers talked about the impacts of the local,state,and federal government and how they can help Anson County grow its economy.

The event had a host of prominent individuals apart of the event roster. State legislators Rep. Mark Brody and Senator Tom McInns were unable to attend due to a session in the General Assembly."" Neva Helms assistant to Rep. Brody,read letters from both legislators. Congressman Richard Hudson also sent his district director,Chris Carter to speak on his behalf. Chunk Horne,chairman of the Anson Economic Development Corporation gave an overview of economic development in the county.

Lula Jackson,director from the Anson County Department of Social Services,and Centralina WDB Board Member,provided an informational overview on DSS and its impact to economic development.

"

"Department of Social Services is a community partner available to assist families and individuals during times of need," Jackson said. "We are creating a new culture that balances quality customer experiences,quality employee experiences,and quality business processes."

Centralina Workforce Development Board"s Executive Director,David Hollars,graced the audience with an informational presentation about the importance of enhancing Anson"s labor force to create and retain jobs across the county.

"Workforce development is economic development,"Hollars said. "Our key focus is on employment and our Workforce Development Board is champions of that," he added.

"

During the presentation,Hollars stressed the goals of the Centralina Workforce Development Board which is developing a talent pipeline. Anson County now has an NCWorks Career Center housed in the Lockhart-Taylor Center and has been opened for over a year .

At the conclusion of the presentation,Hollars encouraged every employer to transform the future and prepare citizens to be successful.

"There is nothing more vital for a community than to provide employment opportunities,"said Hollars.""
