Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB) and Community Partners Provide Talent Transition Services For Daimler Trucks in Rowan County

Daimler Trucks of North America (Freightliner) recently announced temporary lay-offs effective January 15,2016 for their facility located in Cleveland,NC (Rowan County)." To assist those that were losing employment,the Centralina Workforce Development Board developed a Talent Transition team which included community partners. During the month of January,the team met together on many occasions to brainstorm ideas in order to assist with over 840 individuals who were affected by the layoff.

In order to help those impacted find new employment,theCentralina Workforce Development Board,Rowan County Government,RowanWORKS Economic Development,Rowan County United Way,Rowan County Chamber of Commerce,Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and the NCWorks Career Center-Rowan held a Job Fair for Daimler employees on Friday January 29,2016,at the West End Plaza in Salisbury.

Vail Carter,Centralina WDB Business Services Coordinator and Stephanie Robinson,Centralina Workforce Services Regional Talent Employment Solutions Supervisor,both played a major role in gathering the Talent Transition team in order to offer support services,training resources,and employment opportunities to each individual effected." Centralina Workforce Services staff and community partners worked hand and hand with Corey Hill,President of United Auto Workers Local 3520 and Centralina WDB"s newest Board Member in assisting the former Freightliner workers.""
Attendees had the opportunity to meet more than 20 employers,all of whom had immediate openings to fill." Employers including Imperial Brown,Rowan-Salisbury Schools,Novant Health,the City of Salisbury,and Rowan County Government were in attendance." Hundreds of former Freightliner employees filled the facility seeking employment."" Representatives from NCWORKS,RCCC,Rowan County United Way,Rowan County,the Salisbury Post,and more,were also present to discuss the services and resources available to those impacted by this announcement."
